City of Phoenix Neighborhood Resource Center

This transformation is focused at the intersection at 24th Street and Broadway, where the city plans to create a commercial gateway, referred to as The Four Corners. When completed, The Four Corners will provide the community with retail space, commercial offices, and community service offices. The Neighborhood Resource Center is the first completed phase of this project.
The 14,700-square-foot center houses a police unit, community meeting rooms, and offices for staff, including neighborhood specialists, preservation inspectors, and community workers.
The facility is modest in scale and budget, but creates a strong presence that serves as an anchor to future redevelopment of the major intersection. In recognition of the desert climate, the Neighborhood Resource Center is a courtyard building oriented along the east-west axis.
The design elements are borrowed from many nearby industrial sheds, with a palette of metal siding and standard masonry; simple shed forms are extruded and peeled away from block boxes. Abundant glazing along the street facade, entries, and community rooms permits the community to view the activities inside.
